NooB - '05 Rolla XRS -> CEL P2440 & P420

Hello Fellas.

I just picked up an '05 Corolla XRS from a used car dealer in Toronto, Ontario Canada.

It's been modified by the previous owner.

Mods include:
Coilovers (not sure what make yet but will check once she's on a hoist)
Front Strut Bar
Exhaust - need to check this too
CAI Injen

After the first five hours of taking ownership of the car the CEL came on. Needless to say it pissed me right off. A few days later I brought it to my mechanic for a diagnostic check and resolution.

CEL CODE:

P2440
P420

I've looked up the codes through Google. I wasn't successful on this site to pull any info. Perhaps, I'm doing something incorrectly.

I understand that this Injen CAI creates an trouble code with the ECU of P2440. I'm trying to remedy this. I think because of this that it's tripping CEL P420 which is CAT and O2 sensor failure.

I need some concrete trouble shooting or a resolution before I start buying stock parts and reconverting it back to stock. I really do want to enjoy the car without the bloody light staring into my eyes. It's really annoying.

I'm good with cars. I've been enjoying TurboFords forever and have since joined the Toyota side for the first time. I'd love to drive this car for a year or so and then build the bottom end with 8:1 Forged internals and run a nice turbo kit.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated fellas!!!

Cheers!
Jay

There's a lengthy discussion about the P0420 code here:

'03 LE - P0420 Code

Hope this helps!

I have had an Injen intake for over 3 years now and it has never thrown a CEL.

My recommendation is to try resetting your ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal of your battery and then let the car idle for 10 mins after reconnecting. The other thing that could be possible is a dirty MAF sensor, which means it will need cleaning.
