Canada Drive-by-wire TPS control / shifting on 2005 Corolla CE

I have just traded in my good old manual 1993 corolla towards a manual 2005 corolla CE and I am NOT happy with the feel of shifting and lack of fine RPM control. I do not know if something can be done about it. I even suspected the aging clutch playing games with me - it grabs at the upper side of the pedal position but I determined that it just doesn't slip.

On most usual shifts I end up doing an ugly rpm oversohoot which is often seen in new drivers. Almost as if I don't put my foot off the gas pedal in time during the shifting. At the beginning I thought that I would simply get used to it, but it is bugging me more and more. I have been driving manual cars for 30 years and never felt like this.

There are no error codes. Also, I find it is extremely hard if not impossible to make a smooth (in Neutral) rpm transition of throttle from 1000rpm to 2000rpm in other than in one disjoint step. Is this something I have to get used to? /something corollas just do?

maybe try to reset the ECU? and let the ECU relearn your driving style.

You'll get used to it. My car revs up when changing gears at certain RPMs, seems to happen more if I'm above 3 or 4k when shifting.

My biggest problem is getting used to the car when the weather is warm and it no longer idles high (think 1200-2000 RPM).

Yeah, you'll get used to it. This is the first DBW car I've had, and it's a stick at that (wouldn't have it any other way). Every other stick shift vehicle I've had had a real throttle cable, and you could actually "feel" the engine through the gas pedal. Not so with this.

Yes, it took me a while to get used to feathering the throttle. I've had the car for right at 15 months now, and I'm pretty much perfect with it. Like caddymac, my issue is still with the transition between warm/cold weather. Now that it's cooled down some, the cold idle is higher, and I'll sometimes accidentally rev it high when starting out, or during the 1-2 shift. When it idles high like that, you almost don't need to touch the gas at all. But otherwise, while driving, I've really got the timing down so that when I let off to shift, I'm in the next gear and letting the clutch out as the engine naturally falls to the RPM of that gear. It'll just come in time for you.

I can, however, smoothly run the engine from 1000 to 2000 RPM in neutral. I can stop at any RPM I want to with the gas pedal. So something may indeed be amiss with the calibration on yours if 1000 to 2000 RPM comes in one fell swoop.
