Dash Rattle

I have a dash rattle that as been slowly starting to annoy me. It sounds like its coming from the center of the dash right behind the radio. Any ideas.

Mine has that also, though intermittently. The fix is to shift before that.

I've found that if you push down hard on the top of the dash, behind the radio, the noise goes away for a while. Must be something touching something in there.

Just wondering. Do all of you have the factory 6 CD changer?

My car had what I assume to be the same noise and was most prominent at that RPM range. It would stop if you pressed down on the top of the dash. It was the various metal slots in the CD changer vibrating against one another. I think this occurs because the radio is only secured on the bottom, so the top is free to move and vibrate a bit. Put in an aftermarket deck and the noise was gone.

Now if I could just find the source of the vibration behind the gauge cluster that I get at 1800-2200...

Check the fascia under the wiper blades between the hood and the windshield. The plastic clip rivets that hold it at each end were both broken and loose. It *seems* that since I've replaced them it hasn't buzzed like that again...it's only been a week but I've been listening closely and I haven't noticed it.

Wow, that's interesting. I wonder if I could stuff in some fabric between the top of the radio and the dash panel. That might provide enough pressure on the top of the radio to quell the rattle.

Mine hasn't done it for a while, now that I think about it. It seems to do it most when someone's sitting in the passenger seat, oddly. That's rare, unless I'm carpooling, and I haven't done that lately. At home, we always take the minivan if it's the whole family, because the baby seats are in it. So it's usually just me in the Corolla.

There are a number of guides available on the internet that describe the process, and with pictures even.

I just knew you must have forgotten! For, one of the very first results (okay, the fifth actually!) when you search for "removing radio corolla" is:

Nevermind, I heard it this weekend getting on the freeway...back to the drawing board.
