sometimes -10*F to -20*F and its already been in the low thirties in the first part of October...I've used 0w-30 and it "seemed" to do ok and now i have syntec 5w-30 in now. My car sits out of the garage since my truck is in the process of being rebuilt.

i dunno man, i'm not an oil expert but I would think it would do fine, as long as you're just going to be using it as winter oil only.

That oil would be 100% okay to use year-round, as long as you have a 2006 or 2007 model. A TSB exists that recommends 5W-20 for those models. Earlier ones (2003-2005) are not included in the TSB. A 0W-20 will provide even better cold starting, but still run at the same warm viscosity grade as a 5W-20 when warm. It's a win-win. Use it with confidence.

guys thanks for the input but i went to several stores today and couldn't find but one quart... so i decided on Pennzoil Platinum 5qt jug for $20.00 and a $15.00 MIR from Pennzoil. Next oil change 5w-20 PP with a gold pure one over sized filter PL14477(i think)...

I received the TSB from Toyota. It gives all the Engine Model #'s. And I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla S and was included on this list based on the engine model #. I have been using 5w20....because it doesn't get to cold where I am. I did have a 2mpg increase on average after changing the car over to the 20w. I am using Mobil 1 synthetic 5w20.

You are correct, the 1zz fe is on the list, but the 5w-20 is only for the 06+ 1zz fe engines.

Yeah, technically, the TSB applies only to 2006 and later vehicles. But I have no doubt that any 1ZZ-FE, regardless of year, could run forever on 0W/5W-20 oil. The 5W-20 Pennzoil Platinum would pretty much qualify as a 0W-20 weight, if Pennzoil would label it such.

Good read.
Someone posted that 0W30 stuff is just to flush your engine {to prep. for switch from Dino to Synthetic} and not to be driven on. I double checked a jug at local auto store & it stated it surpassed all manufactures requirements.

That is a huge myth and not true.

Not only is 0W-30 completely safe to use, it'd be an even better choice probably where a 5W-30 or a 10W-30 is specified. It'll still be about a 30 viscosity grade when at operating temperature, but it'll provide much better engine protection during cold starting. The Pennzoil Platinum that's labeled as a 5W-30 would actually meet the requirements for being labeled a 0W-30 grade, if Pennzoil so desired.
