tire pressure monitors???

ok... had a punchure 2 weeks ago, didnt notice till it was to late to save the tire (sidewall was damaged) swapped out to the spare and went on the hunt for a matching tire to our remaining 3 tires. got the new tire installed and away we went. NEVER in this time did the tire monitor light turn on. well... this week the light came on. NO low tires or anything that should matter.

only thing different between the tires are 3 have 50% and one is new. (i dont see that making a difference)

we reset it after it came on and checked the tires all out. went to drive home after and it came back on 100Km later.

whats wrong with all this?

mike, same thing happend when I rotated my tires a couple weeks ago. I think I solved it but i'm not 100% sure till I give my XRS another drive that's over an hour.

With my Corolla on (engine dead) and the tires cold (at 30PSI for CE, LE, S; 32PSI for XRS) press the Tire Pressure Reset Button till the tire pressure warning light goes out. Then press the Tire Pressure Reset Button longer (I think more than 5 seconds), till the tire pressure warning light on the dash blinks once and then goes out. I think this resets the monitoring system as a whole...

once again not 100% sure, but it seems to have worked for me.

I'm pretty sure you guys have to initialize the system. To do this, you have the car in park and hold the reset button until it flashes 3 times and then release. Initialization is completed after driving at the speeds of 30 km/h (19 mph) or over for more than one hour. I checked my 05 owner's manual and this is what i found on page 128.

I have a similar problem with my '08 CE. After getting new tires and 100 miles later, the tire pressure sensor light came on. I checked the pressure and there was nothing wrong. I tried to reset it by following the steps in the manual, but that was no good. I went back to the tire shop to check the sensors in the wheels, but they seem to be fine. I have been keeping up with the tire pressure and they are normal.

What kind of problem am I looking at? Is it a problem with the sensors? ECU? Reset Button?

In any case, is there a way to take the system out of my car?

I find it bothersome and distracting. It was not very useful to begin with since I check my tire pressure regularly.

Thanks

Just checked my 05 owners manual and yes this is what you do... I did it correctly in my first post; I don't think my light flashed 3 times , but I might not have been paying attention.

It will also work with the following perameters:
Vehicle speed is between 50km/h (31mph) and 100km/h (62mph)
The roads are dry, smooth and straight
The number of passengers is 1 or 2 (including driver)

Haha! I checked my spare and it was 30 psi under. Thanks for the tip.

But, my tire pressure sensor light is still on after a tried resetting it. The light flashes for a minute and then stays on afterwards. According to the manual, the tire pressure monitoring system is malfunctioning. I took it to Toyota and they said they had to charge me $175 just for a diagnostic and then labor and replacement parts on top of that. I can't afford that... clearly.

Any ideas on what could be causing the malfunction? If not, anyone know how to disconnect the system entirely?

This is my 1st car (Corolla LE) that has a tire pressure monitoring system (I owned 5 other Toyotas before). Don't know why the designer put the warning light in such a place we hardly will see it when driving. It should have been in the front dash next to engine warning light.
