Jerky Tranny Shifting With Check Engine On

Hello My daughter has an 07 corola ce with an automatic tranny with 40,000miles on it . This car was bought new localy and she now has moved 90 miles away . The check engine is now on and when driving the tranny shifts eraticly and is real jerky. Is this the tranny sensor or the computer. There is a toyota dealer in Green Bay that has serviced her car before and when she called them to explain the problem the service manager told her this was a common problem that was covered by warranty. I dont want my kid to be taken to the cleaner by the dealership and if anyone knows what this problem is I can give her some advice so she knows what tell the service manager what might be the broken . Thanks John

Does she know what the code is? Some auto places may check it for free, which could be helpful going into the dealer. I dont know if you have any autozones or advanced autos near you, but it is pretty easy and free to get them to check the code. Checking the code at the dealer is a $90 charge. Check out this TSB if it applies to her car: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/PE...46_corolla.pdf

Five days ago my 05 Toyota Corolla's transmission started being jerky when shifting at low speeds. About 30 minutes later the check engine came on. I had a code reader to find it was code 2716

If it is a code 2716 that your daughter has on , it will point to a solenoid item near the transmission as the problem, BUT WAIT. I read this Technical Service Bulletin below which said it is actually a faulty ecm(the car's computer). It says the ecm's on many Toyota Corollas were recalled and if within warranty, no charge for a new one

Three days ago i went into a Toyota dealership, told them my check light was on, told them it was a code 2716,told them there was a TSB issued for a code 2716 and gave them the two page printout of the above TSB i copied from my computer. We made an appointment for my car to be serviced Friday morning. By 2pm Friday my car was ready with a new ecm. The charge: $0.00. If my car was out of warranty the cost would have been $1500

I dont think the dealership was all that happy to do a $1500 auto repair work for no charge, thats how it went. No check engne light on,No more rough jerky shifting.
