03 corolla water pump

I have a 02 tundra that has a maintenance schedule of 100,000 miles at which time the timing belt and water pump usually gets changed.
The 03 corolla I also own has this steel timing chain that requires no changing for quite some time (200,000). I see no post for waterpump replacement as a regular maintenance item. Is everyone running the pump to failure?
I'm feeling uneasy about this pump going out on a long trip and will prolly change it out at 100,000 to 110,000 miles. Does anyone else think this way? What brought this on was me buying heater/rat hoses for the corolla to change this and coolant at 100,000. I got to thinking the waste of time money doing the coolant change just to turn around in a few miles to do a water pump. The corolla has 92,000 now.

Your waterpump should sit SW of your alternator and be independant of your timing chain. It has a weep hole you can check as well-

My 04 has 160000+ and the water pump is fine-

The water pump should be fine for a long time. I wouldn't change it if it's not leaking or whining.

Mine leaked at 58K miles. I had a noticeable coolant loss and crusty deposits on the water pump. You will have to pull of the alternator to get to it.

Ive done the research on the how I was more interested in the if. If you all are waiting for failure or doing the set mileage maintenance replacement. The guys in the tundra forums all seem to change out their water pumps at 100,000 miles weather they need it or not. Most seem to have developed some form of leak at this milage and I surmised the corolla would have similar issues. So far I see you guys are waiting for failures.
Mickered30 that seems out of the ordinary to have a waterpump go out that quick. Did you by chance do a coolant change and use regular tap water with your anti freeze mixture? Did you change your own pump or did you send it out for repair?

I was surprised that it went that early. I never did a coolant change, as the 05+ use a super long life coolant that requires the coolant to be changed intially at 100K miles, but of course I would change it sooner. This coolant is bought premixed from the dealer. The 03-04 corollas use a different coolant, and I am not sure if they are interchangeable.

I was going to change the coolant this fall, but I saw the leak before my powertrain warranty was up, so I took it to the dealer, and they did it for free. I got a new pump, and asked for my thermostat to be changed, as the coolant was already drained and the alternator was already off. I had to pay for thermostat replacement, but it was money well spent.

I think that 90K miles is a good interval to change the pump, as it is recommend on other toyotas that have timing belts to have the water pump changed at the same time.
