Canada Corolla 2006 LE: hissing noise on passenger side lega rea

Hello!

I just bought a used Corolla 2006 LE, otherwise in top shape. I recently noticed a hissing noise on the passenger side in the leg area. It's not loud, but audible. It comes in as I start the engine and dies when I kill the engine. It does not depend on HVAC settings or engine RPM, always present. I don't hear it under the hood or wheel arch. Engine idles at 800RPM, HVAC is OK, not any other problems.

Is it normal? What could it be?
Thanks!!!

Michael.

Is there anything specific I need to look for when inspecting it?

If there is any play in it. It may be beneficial to drive around with the glove box off and see or hear if you can isolate the noise. A passenger might help too.

Does anyone else have it? Could it be a "vacuum leak" in my case?

I checked and cleaned it - nothing wrong with it. The hissing is coming from the that HVAC module over there, behind the glove bar.

Question

I also noticed something else (not sure if it is related to the above). Sometimes, every 3-5 minutes when engine is hot, and idling at the lights, the RPM goes up to 1000 for 4-5 seconds and back to 800, at the same time I can hear a "ps-s-s-s-sh-sh" sound somewhere from behind the dash. The sound is like some excess hot air is released. :-/

I'm puzzled, please HELP!

Hmm... I think I can hear the a/c compressor running in my case. Now the question is why does it run all the time? I have never ever had fog on the inside of my windows, so I assume I have some sort of of automatic climate control system? Some say that A/C kicks in defrost mode (which may be true for me), but for me the compressor works all the time regardless of the HVAC controls...

No big deal. This happens on every corolla. Like someone stated above this has something to do with the cabin filter. Also be sure to check the filter (behind your glove box) every 3months. Sometimes it simply needs to be re-adjusted. Under acceleration you should hear a light hiss. This is normal but you should never hear a knocking noise...that would be the quarters in the cupholder.
