Need help with motor swap ideas

I have a 2004 Corolla that has 94K miles on it. I recently came home from working in NC to find out my girlfriend had driven the car with no oil in it...Spun rod bearings, shavings in the oil after I changed it, crankshaft bad...blew motor...I now need to purchase another motor to put in it this week or next..I was thinking about replacing it with the same stock vvti 1.8 thats in it, however I want something with a little more power that would eventually be a manual conversion. Anyone have any ideas of what I can do, I live in orlando FL and about how much do motor swaps cost? I need something thats around 1500ish If i have to go back stock I will. Please any ideas help, I was looking @ a few celica motors but not exatly sure what I should be looking for.

With enough money, you can swap anything in.

With a budget of $1500, you'd be best served by sticking with the 1ZZ-FE engine. The Corolla and Celica had the same 1ZZ-FE engine. Some models of the Celica had the 1ZZ-FED engine, which would not be a direct swap for you (different ECU and other connections I believe). The Corolla XRS had the 2ZZ-GE engine, which also would not be a direct swap. But if you absolutely had to have something other than stock, the 1ZZ-FED or 2ZZ-GE would be your best options.

If you want to do a manual conversion also, a stock 1ZZ-FE engine is the only way to go, because you'll have more money for the rest of your project. The 2005-2008 engines had Drive-By-Wire throttle, so you'd have to use your existing throttle body, but that's not a big deal. There may have been some other minor changes for 2005, but I'm unsure. If you could find a 2003-2004 engine, that'd for sure be the easiest swap.

From what it seems.

You have an auto.
You want to know if a manual swap is possible? Yes BUT not worth it. Also this will cost you more than $1500. Pain in the a$$ and totally not worth it. Keep it stock.
