Less to the point of PhatRoyale, there is no kit out there you can piece together. You'd have to have it made by a shop. You'll also want to buy forged internals, which on a 1ZZFE are really expensive. You'll also new bigger injectors (which you'll most likely have to get from another car and modify to fit> some folks in the J-body community use V8 ford injectors, but whether that would work on a Corolla engine or not, I have no idea).
This post on j-body.org will give you an idea of what you'll need, and what will need to be fabricated:
Thanks.
1. Would a budget btw 5-10K be ample?
2. Is Turbo on a 1ZZFE engine superior in performance, reliability & durability to a supercharger?
3. If supposedly I do get hold of a supercharger should I than go for it & forget turbo?
4. Is it correct that there would be more modification of the stock engine while installing a turbo vs. supercharger?
1. $5-10k would be ample, if not excessive.
2. Turbos are generally harder on an engine than a supercharger kit.
3. That depends on what you want to do with your car. Either will do the job. The turbo has potential to make more peak power, while the S/C will make more useable power across a broader rev range.
4. The thing with the supercharger is it was designed to work on an otherwise stock setup. The forged internals will let you run more boost by using a smaller supercharger pulley, but the kit will work on a stock system.
I'd run no more than 8-10PSI max on our engines stock internals. Our engines have been proven to with stand 200whp and some believe 250whp does not exceed the limits of stock internals. Upgrading to Forged internals is not necessary.
8PSI from a turbo vs 8PSI from a supercharger produces the same amount of forces on the internals. Only difference is some of the power from a Supercharged engine will go to driving the supercharger. Thus a Turbo is more efficient and will provide more power at the same boost level of a Supercharger.
The TRD is still available. Ask them for a part # for an 04 Supercharger. Remember this is the year they were 'discontinued' meaning they stopped advertising it but not selling it. Also if your cool with the technicians maybe on of them can even install it for you 'on his day off' because they wont do it on 'dealer time'. Believe it or not the TRD is not that hard to find. Its the wasy the 05+ was designed a little smaller in the engine bay so it just has to be 'squeezed in' the right way. Also if your really having trouble gettin a TRD look for the GM supercharger that is made for the MATRIX. This will fit the COROLLA also nearly perfectly with slight modding.
Again sometimes i just dont know if its worth it. I have been considering this for a while. Have $2k ready for this project. Also maybe its just me but im not too sure about that link above. Its really expensive and i have never heard of that company or brand. May not necesaarily be a bad thing but who knows.
The 03-04 vs 05+ 1zz engine is the same physical size, same with many of the components inlcuding the car. The Supercharger is also the same model and size and wuill not be a tighter fit.
The GM Supercharger was not made for the Matrix. TRD unit was made for the Corolla as well as the Matrix. GM unit is specific to the GM car being the Pontiac Vibe. There will be no need for any modification as both superchargers are the same and both engines are 1zz's.
I also don't understand why one would pretty well discredit a company because they haven't heard of them. Over the last year or so I have closely followed a few builds using the kit as linked by me above.(03-08 1ZZ Corolla kit only) All of them have worked out great and the customer was extremely happy with the product.
Not sure how much turbo experience you have but the brand Garrett is pretty well known and probably one of the best for their turbos. You can also upgrade to one of their better Turbos for an additional 700 or so for a total of 3700.
Lastly, $2000 is not even close enough for a Brand new TRD supercharger kit. These typically sold for over 3000 new. If you have an 05+ with DBW you will need to consider another ECU management system as well as an adapter plate. If considering turbo, I would not think about purchasing a kit without having nearly $6000 ready.
Kit + Stand Alone ECU + Small components would be nearly $4-5000 without the upgraded turbo. With installation, it’s possible to be looking at nearly $6000 or more.
I would highly recommend NOT using STOCK internals even with 8 PSI. Were talking 60-90 hp here....thats a far cry from say a 30 of nitrous. Remember the motor will be more stressed also as the temp will generally be higher with a turbo. Go custom and you will A) know the quality of the work. and B) Learn.
Get pistons for sure, and our fuel pumps are rated up to 250 I believe, if the injectors can keep up, Im not sure.
If I remember correctly, forged pistons for our cars run about $600-700.
