Is this myth correct?

1. SK16R11.....for city driving.

2. SK20R11......for highway.

3. SK22R11......for supercharged.

I agree that what's laid out there is probably not accurate, but there is *some* merit to the distinctions. The first number in the part number (16, 20, 22, etc) is the heat range. In general, with low RPM driving, you want a hotter plug, in the sense that it doesn't shed heat as fast as a colder plug, and stays hot enough to keep deposits from forming. But on the other hand, if you have a lot of engine modifications and/or run it at redline all the time, you want a colder plug, one that sheds heat fast and won't get so hot so that the fuel combusts as soon as it touches the super hot surface of the plug. So there's a balancing act.

The "16" heat range is the original equipment heat range, and the "correct" one for most driving. If you do super/turbo charge the engine and start to race with it, then you may need a colder plug. A colder plug itself will not get you more performance (and in fact, the wrong heat range can hurt performance), but a colder plug will SUPPORT more power, if you have added those other parts.

Makes sense…..since I have no special mods installed, but have a habit of high rev/rapid acceleration driving both in city & highway……..after 10K miles when I went for a tune up these 16K plugs had their tops covered with red deposits that needed to cleaned.

Should I remain in btw i.e. 20 or to 22?

Yezinki.

BTW Mr. PhatRoyale closed the thread of Performance chips......I found one for the 9th Gen Corollas, that is guaranteed, Dyno tested proven, to increase the performance btw 10-30% for normal aspirated engines & around 60-100% for charged engines.

Am pretty sure you smart people would be knowing about it but feel strange that no one suggested.........if a newbie like me could find it.

For the spark plugs, you should stick with the stock heat range (16). The red deposits are probably a function of the fuel you're using. Don't burn premium fuel. Use regular grade.

As for the computer chips, 10-30% from a computer chip alone just isn't happening, sorry. At 126 hp, 10-30% is 12.6-37.8 hp. If it was that easy to get 160 hp from this engine, the smart folks at Toyota would have done it. The only guarantee about a computer chip that comes with a guarantee is that it's a scam. The reason you got no feedback on it is because there's none to give. "Performance" computer chips on stock engines are just not effective.

I closed the thread because there were simply too many of them asking the same question you were asking that you would have found out the answer if you took a few minutes to use the search function and look through TN's large archive of past threads. You would have found that they were nothing but snake oil, which is like JasonA said, a complete scam that doesn't do anything except lighten your wallet.

Thanks for expressing your experienced thoughts about spark plugs.

Would you care to reply to my threads Dyno soft wares, Display LEDs & Replacing tires & alloys, since you seem to very knowledgeable, which would be appreciated.

As regards the Performance chip I won’t start a debate cause I placed an order of $1K plus, if it works shall keep it, otherwise have a deal with the manufacturers to refund full amount in 30 days……..again 10-30% increase for aspirated engines & 60—100% for charged……mine is aspirated as I couldn’t find a supercharger & now am making a buying list for a turbo…….strange why manufacturers have stopped superchargers?

Like most aftermarket parts for the car, most companies have stopped since there isn't enough demand for the part to cover the R&D costs of designing, producing and manufacturing it. Most people who own Corollas aren't willing to spend money on their cars like most Civic owners.

As for the software, you're on your own. Do a google search.

Thanks Mr. PhatRoyale.
I did find quite a few like,
OBD2Allin One, Digmoto5, AutoEnginuity PC Package, EngineCheck and ScanXL.
It’s just a beginning, now refining to actually what shall serve my purposes.
