Replacing tires & alloys?

My Corolla 06 has 195/60/R15 tires & alloys.

I want to change them to high performance alloys & tires.

What should I be looking for/ keeping in mind……..Rim size I want to keep at 15”…..but what brand, weight etc?

Tires for excellent wet & dry grip, traction, braking, cornering etc

How do I calculate?

I know that a wrong selection can lead to false readings on the speedometer.

Hoping to learn & hear your views,

Yezinki.

Pros & cons of goin to 205/55/R15?

Yezinki.

I moved this thread from another forum and wondered if you all could lend the OP a hand with his wheel and tire questions. Muchas gracias!

IMO:

Stick with Enkei, SSR, Work and anything from under the Rays Engineering brand.

Stick with the stock size tires or resize them at the http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Play around until you find a tire size that doesn't throw off the speedometer by a lot.

Whereabouts are you located?

Why 15s? the car would perform and look better with 16s. But yeah, 205/55-15s wider and lower so they handle better than the ballooney original size.

As mentioned earlier it has 195/60/R15”.
1. Increasing the rim size to 16…..better looks agreed……what weight approx…..16lbs alloys?.....besides looks with a 16 what else do I gain....as regards to road grip, handling cornering etc?
2. To correct the speedometer readings error…..tires size to 50 or 55…..205/50-55/R61”?
3. With these new sizes how would the drive be in city, highways & bumps…….pros & cons of this change in the vehicle’s ride pertaining to acceleration, high revining, FC, handling, cornering etc?

Thanks TrailDust, Mr. PhatRoyale & REN69.

REN69 you recommend 205/55/15 or 205/50/15?

Yezinki...Good Questions! I'm also curious too. Anybody have some answers. Also, how big a wheel/tire can you go before interference with wheelwells, etc?

Personally performance of any vehicle is my first priority & looks comes after that. As for alloys/rims are concerned would never try going beyond 17”……..alloys should be light weight approx a little over 16 lbs…..more the size & weight adds load on suspension & incorrect Speedo readings……tires good brand, durable, soft…..like Michelin Hydro edge or any reputable brand…..size again max 205-225 width…….cause if combo is incorrect the car might look fancy but many pit falls…….like lower FC, incorrect readings, suspension loads, fender damage…….unless you wanna change & mod suspension too …….as one of the members replied it’s not a sports car but rather a dependable, reliable family commuter.
Just my thoughts.

205/50 would be too small for your car, 205/55-15 would be a closer match.

You should play with the tire size calculator online.
