Corolla Q

Hey, I have a question about my 2004 Corolla S Model. 80K miles on her currently. Took it to a local dealer here in NC to check out my belts, well the news was shocking!

"DRIVE BELT TENIONER BOLT ASSEMBLY SEIZED WILL NOT COME OUT WILL NEED TO REMOVED ENGINE ASSEMBLY AND TRY TO REPAIR BOLT.
MAY NEED SHORT BLOCK REPLACEMENT....AT THIS TIME RETIGHTENED BOLT AS BEST AS POSSIBLE...NO NOISE NOTICED AT THIS TIME."

Big time confused about this, the car is not very old, and a darn BOLT could cause some major havic on the wallet and this is not a good time for this to occur.

To the pro's, is this very common? I Did not find much about this online!

Never heard of that, I believe they can just replace the pulley with out taking out the whole tensioner, if that is the problem. Did they say it was leaking or the pulley is shot?

Sounds fishy. If it's seized in the engine, there's no way they could "retighten" it. What are the symptoms and/or what was the car brought in for? If there are no noises or squeaks or rattles, I wouldn't think anything of it.

Get a second Mechanic to look at it, not a dealership.

Sounds like they stripped the bolt threads will hold the tensioner to the engine. I thought the tensioner screwed into the timing cover and only the timing cover would have to be replaced and not the complete engine assembly. Hope this helps

Thanks for the responses! Took it there for squealing belt noise last week and drive tensioner belt could not be changed b/c of bolt. now last night when I put my car in drive, there is a small clicking noise. when I press the gas, clicking gets a little faster but then goes away. I tell ya, when it pours it pours like this AM. Car would not start this, and had it towed to the dealership which is only a mile from my house. the clicking noise is the new issue and I am sure it's related to that tensior.

I did call an indie shop last week and they would not touch it since the dealership has touched it already..my 04 corolla is falling apart
