HIDs flickering, cant disable DRLs, help please.

hey TN members

i just installed HIDs in my 9thgen and they're flickering.
ive since spliced them (both passenger and driver sides) and grounded them.
still flickering.

asked around and heard it might be my DRL's causing the problem because 9thgen(03's usually) pulse the DRL current. I used the yellow wire tech.(cut+ground) . still, my DRL's come on once i put it into gear, and the HID's still flickering.

as i dont want my new HIDs to burn out on me - any ideas or help for both problems would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need to disable the DRLs. This has been discussed a lot on here. Cut the #12 wire going into the DRL relay up under the dash. I think pictures have been posted here. There's also a huge discussion on 9th_gen_corolla.com (remove the "_").

Thumbs up instead of cutting the DRL wire

I just put a switch so when I usually turn my lights on only the fogs will come on then there is a switch for my HID's and another switch for my Halo Rings. I like driving with only my fogs and Halo rings.

Good point, it will glare really bad since the lens are not designed for HID but designed for halogen. Retro's are the way to go (expensive though). You basically put OEM HID projectors in your stock housing to get a nice cut off line. 9 out 10 I see on the road with non stock HID are in their oem housing.

I used to tell folks all the time to not put them in halogen housings, but it gets old being told, "oh, I know what I'm doing, I'll re-aim them!" Thanks to some of the rest of you for helping to carry the torch!

I know what you mean. Plus, HID in oem housing looks ghetto.

Yeah, it's not impressive. It's today's "SilverStar upgrade". Anybody can throw an $80 HID retrofit, er--ghettofit, into their halogen housings and blind you.

HIR bulbs are a much more responsible upgrade. They provide at least 75% of the improvement in forwarding lighting that an HID kit provides, but without the glare to others.

It's strikingly obvious which cars out there have real HID setups and which ones are ghettofits into stock halogen housings. The ghettofits are not impressive in the least.
