2005 Corolla- cranks, no firing, blows fuse 15, 20

The morning after driving through many puddles in a major NYC rainstorm in October, my corolla cranked but there was no firing. My mechanic replaced fuse 15, but was not sure it was related to the rainstorm. Three weeks later, it happened again - no rainstorm. I replaced the fuse myself and it started. I made 3 stops and it happened again. This time, it continued to blow my box of 15 fuses and would not start. My mechanic couldn't find the problem and it starting working again spontaneously after they replaced fuse 15. I then drove it to a Toyota dealer who found nothing $300 later. they replaced fuse 20 and 15 (in front of fuse box which was different from the original 15 replaced in middle of fuse box). They said to wait until it happens again! I've consulted with other mechanics who have suggested possible computer failure maybe due to rainstorm or possible wire corrosion/rodent corrosion. All agree that they have never heard of this happening with a corolla. I've had no problems with the car..has 103K miles. I can't keep an unreliable car because my income depends on it.

Additional info: Thanks for your feedback from a few of you and your interest in knowing more. The fuse box is the one under the hood in front of the steering wheel. I was told it was ECM1 and ECM2 that was replaced. I can't find a diagram of a fuse box in my manual or online. I've searched numerous websites and don't know how else to search for this info...thanks again

I don't keep my manual beside my computer, so stating the name of the fuse cct would be more useful.
ie (EFI fuse)

you got to love the stealerships $300 for nothing. I don't have a corrola so not familiar with the fuse panels. you need to look at the owners manual and tell us what fuses these are. are they fuses from the panel in the car or are they fuses from the power ditribution box in the engine compartment. could it be the fuse to you fuel pump. maybe you have a bad fuel pump relay. that would keep your car from starting. get us some more info and we can help. any other symptoms? any work been done?

I'm going to go on a limb here and guess you are talking about AM2, which is the 15A fuse for the starter relay, ECM, coils and the ignitors. I'm a little confused, because I wouldn't think it would even turn over with that fuse blown.

Does the fuse blow only when trying to start it? The starter relay is only energized for a few seconds, while the starter is engaged. The rest of the cct has power, while the car is running.

A blown fuse tells you that there is a short in the cct. It could be caused by water ingress, but not necessarily. It could be a bad ECM, but I like rule eveything else out first.

The fuse data is inside the fuse panel cover.

P.S. It is better to add a new post than edit, when adding new info. As in this case, it can easily be missed.
