I have had this 9th Gen Corolla since 06, presently done about 13K.
Always used Toyota mineral based engine oil till now.
Replaced stock intake in 07………no issues……no codes etc.
Since I switched to fully Synthetic engine oil I feel the engine asking for the next gear at an earlier rpm.
Previously I switched to 5th at about 65mph, now at 40mph.
What could the possible reasons be……….engine not used to fully synthetic taking its time ……….since it’s just only 200miles after the oil change?
From here start all issues.
Hoping to hear your experienced comments.
Thanks.

If you were experiencing some type of torque loss, you would have to shift later, not sooner.
Do you have a Tachometer in your gauge cluster? If so, you should be changing gears according to it.
Find you optimum shift points( where you hit your highest torque in each gear)
Synthetic oil may make your engine rev up alittle faster having less friction. Not sure that it would be noticeable though.Like I said, I'm no expert.

1. OK. 2. Yes I do have a tachometer in the gauge cluster. 3. If I understand correctly meaning streching a gear bit more? 4. Idle start it revs a bit more but normal city driving as stated earlier wants the next gear earlier, at a lower rpm & speed. Thanks shall keep you informed.

But when I rev..........6, 6 again & than straight to 5th lol.

1.5K RPM for 2, 2K RPM for 3, 3K RPM for 4, 4K RPM for 5th.
6K RPM for 2, 6K RPM for 3 & than directly to 5th.

i am really confused here. in normal driving you should shift at like 3,000 RPM but when you are going WOT and want power you wanna rev it all the way up. When im pushing it as far as it can go, i got to 7,200 RPM thanks to a removed rev limiter.

Thanks GTurner598, Could you care to list of mods for performance for a 1ZZ-FE starting from the simple/basics to advanced……..I know you would firstly ask, would you want it charged or N/A…….can 1ZZ-FE engine internals handle 8plus psi…..if not than N/A?

You should be able to feel no difference between synthetic and conventional oil in terms of when the engine wants to shift. During normal driving, here's when I shift:
Letting it rev any higher than about 2500 RPM gets wasteful, if you don't need the power. The engine has good low-end torque for a 4-cylinder.
An easy way to remember shift points is going by RPM if you like. For economy, keep the engine under 3000 RPM. Around 2500 RPM is a good shift point, assuming your car is geared the same as a North American car.
JasonA……I normally shift according to the feel on the gas pedal & sound of the engine…& not looking much at either the speed or RPMs……..you gotta nice signature……..1 US Gal = how many IMP Gal & Ltrs?
1. Is it good enough?
2. Will it be able to handle this turbo kit for 1 ZZ-FE………. http://www.turbo-kits.com/corolla_turbo_kits.html
3. Could you care to answer a few noob questions about it.
a. Is it a reliable one or any better for 1 ZZ-FE.
b. Can I use my preferred air filter & Piggy back rather than K & N, Hydra & AEM?
c. What approx max WHP can I expect to get from it….stock 1 ZZ-FE is approx 100 plus WHP & I think 136 HP ……..Torque 171Nm@42K RPM.
d. After market vs. OEM turbo………what turns the turbo on & shuts it down?
e. Any stock engine internals that would need to be forged?
I shall keep bothering you hope you don’t mind it.
Regards.

intake, header, catback, lightweight pulleys, underdriven pulleys, camcon, emanagle blue, emanage ultimate, grounding kit, shortshifter, lightweight wheels, lowering springs, coilovers, colder plugs, thats a quick list that i can think of while im at work but there is alot that can be done to help free up some power
