CHECK ENGINE LIGHT cel code p2195, air fuel sensor b1s1 bad

I got check engine light cel code p2195, air fuel sensor b1s1 bad, $438 to repair. any way around this? I just bought this car 4 months ago. the service person told me it was due to bad gas (damaging a sensor)!?!?!?!?! I then told him why this didn't occur to any of other cars!?

it costed me $50 for toyota to read the code. is there a cheaper alternative? other than the light the car drives fine. can I just ignore it? this is for a
2008 corolla LE. how do I clear the code/ECU?

that code is for your bank 1, sensor 1 (b1s1) oxygen sensor. that's the one that's sitting right there on top of your exhaust manifold. and yes, bad gas can cause it to go bad if it had clogged up and fouled the sensor! what you'll want to do is find a parts store that carries the Denso brand oxygen sensors for our cars. if they offer you a Bosch brand, don't get it, I've heard that the Bosch sensors don't work quite like they should for some reason with our cars. the sensor might cost you around $200 depending on where you go, still not cheap, but you should be able to fix it yourself or find a friend who's car savvy to do it. good luck on whatever you decide to do.

^^listen to him. You can get the sensor online, www.1sttoyotaparts.com it costs $150 and is OEM. Removing old sensors can be tricky, not sure of your mechanical ability, but you can first talk to a mechanic and see if he can change it if you provide the sensor by buying it online. If you do not have a local mechanic, talk to the dealer and see if they will install the sensor that you bought. They may not have a problem with it since it is OEM. You will save a bunch of money that way.

There is no reason that a sensor should go bad that early in its life. If you ignore it, your mileage and performance will suffer. Pull the ECU fuse for 1 min to clear the codes. In the future, autozone and advance auto check CELs for free. There is no reason that parts and labor is $438. The list price for the sensor is $190, and takes no more than 20 minutes to change.

How many miles on the car? I assume you bought it used, did it come with any warranty? If you are under 36K miles than the O2 sensor is covered under the toyota 3 year 36K mile warranty.

the car has 43K on it. It has the toyota certified warranty. I did not buy an extended warranty (saw no need for it, looks like my luck has changed). toyota says they will not cover it. how do I find out the part#?

There is a part finder on that website, enter your car info, it is under: Electrical - Powertrain control - Oxygen sensor- front. You will have to give your VIN when you check out. It is $136 to $10 shipping. In the comments section of that website, just say that it is bank 1 sensor 1 Air fuel ratio sensor.

I have a pontiac vibe. my car was built at the nummi plant. I have the 1zz-fe. I had codes p0133, p0171, 92195, p0134, I changed the precat o2 sensor about 4months/8k miles ago using an SNG* that i got online. . the codes never came back and i got the car inspection. last week p0133, p2195 cam back. I cleared them, they cam e right back on. today I added a little seafoam to the tank, I also had a little too much oil in the engine. so I removed about 1/2 quart. I searched online and saw someone that said to high of an oil level can cause p2195. sounds crazy to me. I reset the codes this morning and I will see what happens. please give me any feedback. I wonder if the o2 went bad?

There is a toyota TSB that applies to your codes: http://www.matrixowners.com/tsb/T-EG051-05.pdf

What is an SBG? Is that a brand of O2 sensor? Was it plug and play or a spliced universal sensor? The toyota made vehicles thrive on Denso or NGK plugs/sensors. Both of the codes point to a bad A/F ratio sensor.

ooopss it was an SNG sensor that i used. Thanks for the info. I have a pontiac vibe. I will do a search and see if they had a recall for these codes also.
