Does the Prestone bottle specifically say that it's certified by Toyota? I wouldn't use it. From their website:
Prestone® Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant is compatible with ANY antifreeze/ coolant – regardless of color – for use in ALL makes and models of cars and light duty trucks. This patented formula provides a high degree of performance durability and carefully balanced protection against temperature extremes and rust corrosion of all cooling system metals, including aluminum.
Sorry, Prestone, negatory. My Chrysler uses a low-silicate coolant. My Dodge uses a fully-silicated coolant. My Toyota uses a silicate-free coolant. If one coolant could satisfy every need, then there wouldn't be the different formulations that there are out there. Is the Prestone coolant silicated? If so, I wouldn't put it in the Corolla. If Toyota wanted silicates in the system, they'd be in Toyota's coolant. If the Prestone doesn't have silicates, I wouldn't put in the Chrysler. If they wanted a silicate-free coolant in there, they'd have done that.
Prestone's claim is lame. It doesn't list any certification, no Toyota material specification, not even a mention of "Toyota" in general. Advertising yourself as a "one size fits all" product turns me off. It may be GREAT for one type of system out there. Which one? Who knows. At best, it's a compromise designed to fit all, and that's not something that I'd be interested in messing with. To answer the original question, yes, it's probably "okay". But not optimal.
