2006, corolla XRX wheels and tires

Hi,
I have stock rims, 195-55-16 tires on my XRS.
Has anyone tried putting on 205-55-16 tires without rubbing?

I know that 205-50-16 can be done but what about the 205-55-16?

Appreciate if anyone can provide me specs or answer as I am looking also for a tire than has long wear, quiet with reasonable traction and treadwear in both wet/snow and dry weather. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

A 205/55R16 should fit fine.

The Michelin Primacy MXV4 pretty much defines the grand touring type of tire. It has few weaknesses, and recently handily scored #1 in Consumer Reports' latest H-rated tire testing. It also consistently places at the top of Tire Rack's comparison testing.

It's not always the absolute cheapest tire out there, but you get what you pay for, and you get a LOT of tire in the Michelin Primacy MXV4.

Thanks JasonA,

Forgot one other question. TPMS -is the sensor in the original tire or rim? If in the tire, do I have to ask that it be salvaged when they replace the tires?...I hear the sensors are expensive.

The sensor, if you have it, is integral to the valve stem in the wheel itself. So you can swap tires with no problem.

Yes! I put 205/55-16 Goodyear F1 all-seasons on my 2005 XRS last year and there have been no problems. Plus they look a bit chunkier than the 195s.

Right after I got the Goodyears we got a big snow and they did well - definitely better than the worn-out OE Michelins.

Always buy the best tires, brakes, and windshield wipers you can afford. It'll be worth it. Good luck.

Yes 205/55/16 should work. I used to have winter tires in that size, but I do not recommend it on the XRS.

However, I must warn you that the circumference of the wheel/tire will increase making the gear ratios a bit taller (car will rev up slower). Your speedo and odometer will be slightly slower as well. Due to the tall tirewall, the car used to roll like crazy despite being on lowered springs and stiff suspension.

That is why I switched to the Celica GTS/Lotus Elise rear wheel profile size of 205/50/16 for my performance summer tires (a bit shorter and wider than the stock XRS wheel/tire profile) and it works perfectly. The gear ratios are slightly shorter and since the tirewalls are shorter, the steering response is much quicker.

I would highly recommend going with 205/50/16 since that is what original was used in 2ZZ cars mated perfectly to gear ratios.
