It will be extremely difficult to control the optics with an LED bulb. LEDs are very directional in nature, so you have to have a number of them pasted onto an axis to get 360 degree light. But that takes space (physically), so the "bulb" ends up being relatively large in size. A halogen's light source is almost a pin point in size, especially relative to how large an LED cluster would be, and the optics of the head lamp are designed around that point source of light.
So installing an LED cluster "bulb" in place of a halogen light source would likely produce a lot of glare. I wouldn't recommend it simply because I don't think you'll like the results. You'll likely get light everywhere, and not a whole lot of light where you WANT it, which is on the road.
