Can you check error codes on the dash?

When the check engine light comes on in my PT Cruiser I can check the error codes right on my odometer display. Does a 2005 Corolla have that function as well? I know auto parts stores offer free error code readings but I'd like to save a trip.

That's a nice feature on the cruiser but it is not a feature on the Corolla. You will have to have the code read.

no, the check engine light does not come on in the corolla often enough to need a code reader built into the car

if you want to be able to check the codes yourself and do a crapload more you should look into getting a ScanGaugeII. plugs into your OBD2 port and can readout everything going on with your engine that your ECU sees plus id does way more than just that, check it out. It is kinda pricey though, but no more-so than any other nice scan tool.
