Stag tires setup?

I am confused as to have a stag setup for the tires or all of the same size?
What are the pros & cons of having a stag setup?
Adding to that my local Toyota dealership advised me not to go beyond 16” wheels or else I shall decrease the life of the suspension to a half……is that correct……..unless I make major mods in the suspension too?
What exactly are the criteria for good wheels/alloys like weight approx 16lbs, width 7inches etc?
How can this link help.............http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html
I apologize for asking so many questions but want to be ready & waiting anxiously to install new manifold, magnaflow exhaust & SMT-8UK chip ordered.

From what I understand, A staggered setup is good for RWD cars.

This is because the power comes from the rear, so if you have wider tires in the back, there is more traction, thus negating some oversteer (the back tires loose traction before the front..
The reson that you want to have slimmer tires in front, is to help with your responsiveness since there is less to turn. (also cust down on weight.

This does not matter on the corolla since we have FWD, and we natually understeer. (meaning our front tires will loose traction before the rear.)

On the question if a tire bigger than 16 inches will cut your suspension life in half, I call bull. It may cause premature wearing because you have less rubber to absorb the impact, but I dont believe that it will cut the life by 1/2.

I plan on putting 17x7 205/40-17 inch wheels on my 8th gen.

As for weight of wheels, the lighter the better, but also remember, that the lighter a wheel is, the less strength it has as well. (generally, as there are exceptions)

Thanks for sharing your input & thoughts.
For a FWD vehicle like ours, having the front tires of a lesser width as compared to rear ones help or it doesn’t matter?
How does one calculate the offset & difference in speedo readings using different size tires vs. the OEM……is this link helpful?

A staggered setup would not help a FWD car like the corolla.

As for the tire size calc, go to
