hi everyone i'm new here and need you're help . i have a 2007 toyota corolla le .i've been back and forth in the shop about my brakes squealing when it sits for about 3 hours or more when i reverse and then it goes away right after that it only does it in reverse and they say they don't know what it is they have heard the noise and still don't know they also say it's the humidity. i've had the front brake pads and rotors done the back drums new and resurfaced the shoes cleaned and sanded down. all four cleaned and adjusted .the front pads are wagner ceramic . i also asked the shop i had it done at why there is no shims or anti squeal grease on the back of the pads they said none needed is this true. someone told me to change to toyota or akebono pads and it will go away the price to do that is way over $200 ..should i do it please help thanks everyone

I don't think the squealing does any damage, so one option is just to learn to live with it. My brakes *do* have shims, but I still experienced a similar problem. I solved the problem with some anti squeal grease between the shims and the pads (on the back of the pads), and cleaning out the brakes. This was 20,000 miles ago, and it is still quiet. I still have the original Toyota pads though.
Squealing indicates there is a small problem and it could eventually lead to worse problems. If you have something squealing, something is probably not positioned correctly for it to produce a noise. Try applying brake lube to your brake calipers if the anti squeal grease doesn't fix the problem.
Also, are your brake pads organic, semi-metallic, or ceramic? Ceramic are ultra quiet with minimal dust and I do believe factory brake pads are of ceramic material. However, even if you went with crappy brake pads it should not produce a noticeable squeal like you have said.
Like I said, check calipers after the anti squeal grease.
thanks
i will try that too.
i'm getting the shop to replace the aftermarket wagner ceramic pads with genuine toyota pads and shims so i should have them lube the calipers and add anti squeal grease behind the pads .please let me know for i have an appointment on wednesday.
Well, you should always have them make sure WHAT is CAUSING the PROBLEM before you have anything done. If they replace the pads and you still have the problem... its not their fault because they did exactly what you told them to do.
I believe brake inspection at most reputable shops (Sears Automotive) charge only $12 for a brake inspection.
However, I strongly believe either the anti squeal grease or the brake lube for the calipers will cure the problems. If you have a lot of meat left on the pads, don't replace them... Ask them to show you the pads before putting new ones on. It should have an EVEN, STRAIGHT, PARALLEL surface on both pads... they should also have the same amount of wear on both sides.
The brake lubing is standard by the way... they always do it for brake jobs. However they usually don't use anti squeal grease because they just simply clean the rotors with a brake clean spray.
thank you
they did a brake inspection just friday and could not find a problem so they said i can try putting on the genuine toyota brake pads they are doing it as an even exchange because i've been back in there about 4 times this week and they have heard the sequeal every time.
they should also have the same amount of wear on both sides.
I saw brake pads with unequal wear on the two sides (inner/outer) multiple times, and seemingly there was no problem with the brakes. Or did you mean driver side/passenger side?
thank you to all for your help i am going to have the calipers lubed and the anti squeal grease between the toyota pads and shims which the shop did say they will do that. i will check and see if there was unequal wear i hope this all works thanks again . i'll let you know if this problem goes away i hope it does.
So your brakes squeak when backing out of the parking lot and/or turning in reverse??? If so there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) for this problem and the way you get it to go away is to install new brake pad support plate and add grease on the back of it. Also add grease on the anti-squeal shims inside and outside and add grease on the 2 tips of the brake pads.

check to see if anything is rubbing against one another, grease everything that needs it, and if it still makes a noise maybe you should change the pads. My 10th gen makes a cracking noise EVERY time if use the brakes in reverse and I just learned to live with it
