I got back into my car after stopping at the store, I started the car no problem, put it in reverse no problem, but when I put it in drive and stepped on the gas pedal nothing happened. The engine did not rev up and the rpm needle did not rise....So I turned off the engine and restarted it and the car drives now seemingly normal...BUT the Check Engine Light is on and won't turn off.....I have not been able to get to the dealer or autozone to have it scanned for codes.......so based on the above info what happened or what do you think the problem is.....any help is appreciated.
Reset the computer by removing the negative terminal to the battery for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds put the negative terminal back on... if your light still comes on then you definitely have to get a check engine light scan done for us to help you further.
I disconnected neg. terminal for about 2 minutes. Started engine and CEL is now off. I will keep an eye out, and if light comes back on I will get code scan done......Still any hypothtetical as to why in the first hand based on experience or knowledge you have with these cars....I've only driven mustangs and saturns before. any help or input is Greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Put some gas in the car and noticed the cap clicked but stayed loose when moving it the opposite direction.......This must have caused the CEL to come on, and I noticed the fuel gage needle dropping unusually fast, must have been the reason why! Sound about right ? ? ?

Nope, a loose fuel cap would not cause your car not to move. You should have gotten the code read before you pulled the battery cable. It could have been something serious that could have been fixed, say if it was a crappy ECU, which could easily have been replaced under the emissions warranty. Hopefully it doesn't come back.
Its recommended that you tighten the fuel cap by "3 clicks" so that it is tighten. I have seen CEL just from small pressure leaks from the gas cap being slightly loose.
Now that I thought about it... from the first post when you said you pressed the pedal and the car didn't do anything... to CEL flickering from gas... check your fuel pump...
I have the extended warranty which covers until 100,000 miles. I hope this problem does not happen again, but if it does hopefully it will be before warranty expires.....The CEL has not come back on so far, and it feels smoother from replacing gas cap with a new one.
I am not sure if autozone or advanced can read stored codes, I am pretty sure the CEL has to be on for them to check it. If they dont do it, you will have to find someone who can read them, as it costs $80 for toyota to check them.
