squeaking fan motor?

2005 corolla LE automatic ~55k miles

something in my car is squeaking everytime the fan is on. if i shut it off, the sound is gone. i could describe the sound as a mouse trapped in my fan dying slowly. the sound is awful..

anyone have any ideas, experiences, or instructions on how to end this horrible noise...?!?!?




my guess is the bearing or something on the fan blades or motor or something..? and that it should be located under/behind the glove box somewhere.

Have you changed your cabin air filter lately? Or maybe someone removed it and didn't replace it? If it is missing it would allow debris to get into the fan. Simple things to check first. Could be your fan motor, if it is I have never replaced one so can't really help much there. I do know that noises can be deceiving. I once was convinced that I had a rattlesnake it a ford pickup I owned. Turned out to be a dried leaf in the blower housing rattling.

it's the motor, behind the glove box, i took mine out took it apart and sprayed some cutting oil on the brass bushings. worked like a charm
