Did some checking on the amsoil oil filter issue. Tried contacting Amsoil but so far no response, which doesn't make me particularly happy with them. However, I did find their tsb at another site and the link is posted for you to check it out. Apparently the filter is catching excess particles in the oil (some are relating this to the sludge situation in other Toyota engines, saying that the 1.8 is also doing this) and filling to the point that the bypass is triggered. At this point there is a drop in oil pressure which triggers the oil warning light to come on. Read the tsb for full info. I will be changing filter half way thru the year on my higher yearly mileage corolla from now on. I put on about 17500 to 18000 miles a year. they are recommending 7500 max on the filter, although the oil is good for 25000.
