Thumbs down Black ice morning

I should have been more careful this morning... I slid across some ice in a new traffic circle and hit the curb pretty good. My air bag deployed. I was able to limp my car home - just a mile or so away. Wheel is toe-ed in pretty good and pushed back towards the firewall. This is my first claim in... nearly 30 years.

I am so irritated at myself right now. The tow to the shop is on it's way.

As I was typing:

No body damage to speak off. Wonder if I bent my wheel... I hope you all have a better day,

Ouch! That blows! At least your okay and didn't get injured by the airbag.
Does new mexico usually get this type of weather in the winter?

...but yeah, black ice can be a real bitch!

Sorry to hear it George. Those "comfort" circles suck even without black ice. I heard the reports there was some ice out there this morning. Guess they were right. Glad you're ok though.

Habs_fan, in the Albuquerque area, we get some snow - it doesn't last long and melts after a few days. My problem was that it melted, got slushly and then the temp fell and it iced up. I'm a bit sore right now, but that will pass.

Where are you at olbus? I'm actually in Rio Rancho, but work in the Q! 4 months ago that circle was a straight line with stop signs on either side!

Hey George,
Live near fairgrounds, work at U. They put a "comfort circle" in right by the hospital and it's wacky.
People in NM don't understand these things, me included. This is one thing people from back east can laugh at us for. I remember driving around north of Boston and there was one of those things every mile or two it seemed like. We must have some English traffic designers on the city payroll now.

No snow tires I'm guessing? not that they would do much on ice, but at least they do better than all seasons or summer tires.

Nahhh, snow just doesn't last that long here... The news reported about 8 wrecks in my area that morning. I just should have gone back home for a few hours - my work is real good about stuff like that.

My estimate came to $3,000: New control arms/ball joints/axle/dust shield/mag wheel/tire/mild touch up beneath the bumper/air bag and sensor. I have a $250 deductable - so it wont hurt that bad. Not worried about the car fax report about this happening either - I plan to dirve this car for years to come.

My only real worry is how long it's gonna take to get that "air bag" smell out of my car - YUCK!
