Need help figuring out what is causing this noise...

I just purchased a used 2003 Corolla LE. When I test drove the car before I purchased it, I heard what sounded like a slight roar from the tires - kinda like the sound an off-road tire makes. Well, I replaced the tires and still get the same sound. It's mainly at/or 40mph and 65mph. I can hear it from both the front and rear BUT louder in the rear. It's as though the thread sound from the tire is being amplified through the suspension. The car has never been in an accident and I don't see any new suspension parts which will indicate such. I did notice the boots on the front struts are torn - if that makes any difference.

Can you guys give me some thoughts on what to look for?

Thanks

I did some reading and talked to an old friend back home who is a Toyota shop foreman. He thinks it's a bad wheel bearing. I'm going to diagnose it and will post the results as soon as I can. Is there any Toyota mechanics local to me? I definitely don't want to go to the dealer to get raped for a repair. I know there's guys out there willing to make some sideline $$$.

Let me know...

So are there any Toyota mechanics local to Whittier, CA or close enough to drive? I haven't been able to diagnose yet but during my drive today, I can almost say it's coming from the driver's rear.

I did some work on my front end to solve some sounds. Hope this helps.

The rear bearings are a breeze to change. Its a four bolt bearing hub set up that is made to be replaced. (note: i havent replaced mine yet) Get yourself a good auto book and check it out. Look around for post in this forum on changing rear bearings. Post "how do I" here if you cant find anything. If at all possible post your findings and how to's here. That dust boot on the front end seems to be made to fail. Seriously, made of rubber? In toyotas defense I think this rubber part was used to make it quiter. When I replaced mine with a plastic cover I noticed they do make a bit of noise when hitting large bumps. It doesnt bother me cause I know what it is and the plastic will last allot longer.
