05 Front Passenger Wheel Heating Up

Been fighting this for a while now. Wheel heats up, steering wheel vibrates slightly at 50-60 mph after several miles of driving but doesn't pull to the right. No noises to speak of either. Replaced caliper, brake pads, rotor, and brake line with no improvement. Bled brakes a few times and lubed the caliper sliders. Other wheels are fine.

Did you try wheel balancing? I think that may be a problem with mine I just got new tires on. Could also be worn wheel bearings.

http://www.aa1car.com/library/wheel_balancing.htm
"The vibration or shake usually starts in at 40 to 50 mph and increases in intensity as the speed increases."

Also tire rotation is a good idea, the front tires on a fwd will wear faster than the back.

this was happening to my girlfriends car a few weeks ago, so I took it to class and balanced all her wheels. one wheel needed 3.75 ounces! now, 3.75oz doesn't sound like that much weight, but if you've ever balanced wheels before you'll know that 3.75oz is a crapload of weight to put on. It just shows how "relatively" little weight differences can make when it comes to wheel balance. get the wheels balanced first then see how it rides from there.

I just put new tires on about 2 months ago. I had the same problem before and after the tire change. If the wheel bearings were going bad, wouldn't I hear some noise?

usually you would, it would be like a howling or growling noise but it would be all the time and get louder as speed increased. maybe your alignment is a tad off, i don't know, it's difficult to diagnose cars without actually seeing it and experiencing the problem, ya know? have you had a mechanic go for a test drive with you and replicate the problem? he may be able to tell you if he actually experiences it.

Not necessarily. Usually they make noise near the end. They can run hot around town for awhile and never make noise. Try jacking the wheel up and without getting under it wobble the wheel and see if there is play. Rotate it and see how it sounds.

So I determined it's not the wheel bearing. I found a leaky caliper and changed it out, however, the brake locks up. I've bled the line a few times now but it appears the line just doesnt seem to maintain much pressure after driving several miles. I've thought about replacing the master cylinder but question why I don't have issues with the other wheels. There is a small unit mounted on the firewall where all the brake lines go to. Anybody know what that is and could it be the problem before I go and replace the master cylinder.

that would be the brake proportioning valve I'm pretty sure.
