My transmission fluid needs to be changed...Power Flush OK??

My transmission fluid needs to be changed...Power Flush OK?
It would be $120...Dealer said they would power flush $180

I need to change fluid asap. There are no issues with the tranny
but the fluid is dirty. I have read the Power Flush may not do
a good job, if true will it do some good for the time being? Will
it do any harm?

Just buy the ATF 4 fluid from your dealer, drain, refill, drive around 10 mins, drain, refill, drive around another 10 mins, drain, refill = all done. $180 is way too much and those machines have a tendency to clog the filter, while draining and refilling dosen't. I also dropped my pan to clean it from crap inside and put on a new OEM gasket. The whole cost was about $65 for a case of ATF 4 and gasket.

I am a tad confused. The Toyota dealer does it the flush way, i would think there are no side effects like clogging the filter if the dealer did it the power flush way.

I am not in a postion to do my own auto work right now.

What are the miles on your car? My fluid is turning darker with use, but is still fine. I'll do a pan drain this summer just to keep it fresh, but a flush would be over kill for me. I think that many of the dealer recommended flushes are a money maker for the dealerships.

As an example, my truck was at the dealer for TSB. When I picked it up the tech had written on the ticket that my trans fluid was dark and smelled burnt. Recommed flush. Funny thing is that I did a pan drain every 25K miles... and had just done a pan drain 2 weekends prior. They never even looked at mine, just wanted the business. The service manager said his tech must have confused my (bright YELLOW) truck with some other truck that day. Riiiiiight.... Point I'm trying to make is to be careful with what a dealership tries to sell you. Their major concern is making money and do not always have your best interests in mind.

Maybe your car lives a harder life than most... but I'd think hard about getting a flush. Perhaps a indy mechanic will do a pan drain for you and save you some coin?

Good Luck,
