Tune-up/Service Help...

Hey guys,

my mom drove the car to the dealer to get her lifetime oil change on her 2005 corolla CE ...while she was there of course the reps there tells her what the recommended services the she would need to do in the future. I have a question on those recommendations.
The recommendations are:
4 Cyl Tune Up
Rear Brake Clean and Adjust
Engine Induction Service

My question is that what does the 4 cyl tune up and engine induction service consist of? Because if its easy-moderate then I can do it myself to save my mom a few bucks.. I know spark plugs is one of the things included on the tune up, but what else?

Any feedback would be great!

Thanks guys!!

How many miles are on it?

Corolla's don't really need a tune up for about 100k, and a tune up is just plug replacement on modern cars.

Rear brakes are self adjusting. Unless there's a specific problem with the brakes, I wouldn't touch them.

Engine induction service - Sounds like a fuel injector cleaning. Not neccesary unless you have a problem, like rough running, or a misfire code of some sort on the engine.

The "Rear Brake Clean and Adjust" is a bullsh*@ service. It's just a tactic to generate revenue. Every time I go to the dealer I am always offered this ridiculous service.

the car just turned 100k... I see..so its just those basic maintenance stuff..

well the CEL came on b4 and I brought it to a parts store to check the code out...the reader said its a misfire on cylinder 1...and then the guy cleared the code...i've written the code on a piece of paper but i cant find it now...anyway, i did some research and one of the things that was a culprit was the MAF sensor...so I took it out and cleaned it...and the CEL did not come back...dunno if thats related.

so do u suggest that I let them clean the injectors or should I just buy one of those stuff u put in ur tank to clean the injectors? cuz i know i cant really clean the injectors at home..without a machine..

as for the brakes, its still in a good working condition so ill just leave it alone thanks!

i see...well so far i think this is the only one that my mom got an offer to clean and adjust the brakes...and like what rsirois said above, "it is self adjusting" so that means i don't have to touch it until i need to replace the shoes...

the injector cleaning couldn't really hurt unless they're retarded and screw it up. i don't mess with those "injector cleaner solutions", i don't trust them, all they are for the most part is just alcohol anyway. as for the brake cleaning, unless you feel like doing it yourself, it wouldn't hurt to have the 'ship clean them, they'll most likely just clean the dust out and re-lube all the metal-to-metal contact surfaces, which is good. I would say to go for it unless they are charging you a ridiculous price and you feel that you'd be able to do the same job yourself. let us know what they want for all that before you go through with it.

At 100000 miles, new plugs are a good idea. I always clean my own brakes when I rotate the tires. Keeps the rims from becoming stuck to the hubs, and dust does collect in the rear drums. I run Amsoil PI once in a while, it is an injector cleaner and I figure it can't hurt.

Missfire is likely from bad plugs. Time to change them, use NGK or Denso iridium. Amsoil PI, redline SL-1 and gumout regane are decent cleaners.
