Question What is this part and should I be concerned that it makes noise?

What is this and why does it make a somewhat loud clicking sound in time with the engine? It's connected to a tube with an EVAP-related tag on it.

Thanks!

It is the vacuum switching valve (VSV). It is supposed to click.

It wasn't always this loud, though. Cause for concern?

I wouldn't worry about it, if it goes bad, Toyota has to fix it because it's emissions related

I'm not sure if he's kidding, but that VSV is covered by your basic warranty so if your out of that Toyota doesn't pay

I agree with mikered30. My car has been doing the same thing for the past 5 years, I believe it is a normal characteristic.

Looked in my owner's manual today. Nothing on my car is covered anymore, including emissions, since I'm past 80,000 miles.
