Electrical Issue

2006 Corolla CE
For awhile now my wife has been having an intermittent starting issue. When she attempts to leave work at night she gets in her car & turns the key and she hears a 'click click'. I decided to change the battery being it was the original (4 years old) but it didn't help, the clicking continues. I decided this weekend to attempt to fix the problem. The first thing I did was disconnect the battery and put a multimeter to monitor the current and with everything off 2A is being drawn. I pulled every fuse one by one and the current didn't drop. I unplugged the computer & wiring harnesses one at a time and the current remained. The problem is still there. As the afternoon came yesterday i was going to put everything back together so my wife could take it to work today and as I put the neg cable on the battery i noticed the horn didn't honk. I then tightened the clamp and sat in the car & started it. It started with no problem but many things weren't working. Here is a list of what wasn't working:
keyfob to unlock doors
windows won't roll down
tach & speedometer don't work
temp & gas gauge don't work
turn signals won't work (emergency flashers do)
bright light, o/d off, airbag, cruise, door ajar lights work on instrument cluster
car won't shift out of park
blower motor won't turn on for ac or heat
radio doesn't power on
clock doesn't power on

I have no idea what I did but I need help. I'm an electronic technician for a living and reading schematic aren't a problem for me but I can't seem to find the problem. Does anyone have an idea?

All those bits run through the integration relay - which is inside the cabin. Kind of unsual for the integration relay to go bad, but it can happen. Not an inexpensive part, with your background, should save a bundle on installation costs.

Another possibility - some of the 2005-2006 model year Corollas have faulty ECMs. Basically it boiled down to poor solder joints / parts placement on the boards inside - they generally manifest as a no-start condition. The car could be running perfectly one minute then suddenly fail the next. There is a TSB on this issue for those affected models.

Could be the engine immobilizer (if equipped) that was causing the intial power draw - but I wouldn't think it could draw 2A, as that is a lot of juice.

The click-click behavior on the starter could be from a poor connection at the starter itself or bad starter contacts. Car is relatively too "new" to have this happen, but given the right conditions - some corrosion in the contacts could have taken place.

Good news. I fixed it last night. Everything that was not powering on by my error was cause my me not putting the fuse back in the AM1 slot under the dash. Everything worked flawlessly. I'm back to my original problem with the intermittent click click. I took note of the voltage of the battery as of last night and when i work on it again wednesday I'll see if the voltage actually drops. I'm going to dig into the starter some more then too. Thanks for suggestions.
