probable bad ECU

I am brand new to the Toyotanation, and my daughter has a 2005 corolla with around 120K miles on it. The engine recently died on her, restarted and then died again the next day. The trouble codes are PO452 and PO607.

My research so far tells me the engine control module is probably dead. Since she is over the 80,00 mile warranty, what are my options? I am trying to make this as painless ($$$) as possible for her.

I located the ECU and have a part number, but I am wondering if a new one has to be programmed, or can it be plugged in and used?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help

yes, it would have to be programmed with the car's VIN and the immobilizer will have to be programmed too.

I installed the ECM yesterday - what type of unit is needed to program the VIN# and immobilizer? Is this a dealer only thing?

Thanks

Dealer only, they should have asked for your VIN when you bought it, assuming you bought it new. Does your car work without the VIN being entered?

Yes, I bought the ECM new and the car runs fine, but the check engine light is on with trouble code P0630 (VIN # not programmed).

How about the immobilizer? How did you get that to work?

My buddy needed a new ECU in his 06 Corolla. The local independant repair shop that diagnosed it and installed it said that they had to send the car to the dealer to program the immobilizer as there is not anything in the aftermarket available that can program the immobilizer.

What exactly does programming the immobilizer do? Will the car run OK until this can be done?

the car should not be able to start without having the immobilizer programmed to the key and transponder

It starts and runs fine - maybe it is because the VIN # has not been programmed into the new ECM yet - does this make sense?
