Hot front hub and brake rotor on one side.

Hello, new to the forum. I have a 2003 Corolla S that my wife noticed a smell on today. When she got home I noticed the driver side hub was pretty hot. Much hotter than any of the others. The rotor on that side was also hotter then the passenger side. Does this seem like a hub issue or a stuck caliper issue? Would stuck calipers make the hub get a lot warmer than the other side? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a stuck caliper. You will have to check and then probably replace the caliper, pads on both sides, and rotor and then bleed the brake fluid.

I can't just get the calipers adjusted or something?

It could be the piston or the bolts. You will have to inspect it.

i just had this similar issue arise with my 03 S, it ended up being a stuck piston and ended up buying a new caliper. only 45$ after the core was returned to autozone so not bad but still annoying.

I was going to replace the caliper but then I realized that if I pump the brakes a few times before I start out AND then press then down fairly hard at the end of the driveway, while I am moving, that the brakes are fine after that, i.e. they don't get hot. I had someone check the pads and there is a fair amount of life left on them so I am going to keep doing this. I think the calipers got alittle rusty.

At least you should clean the calipers. I would be worried that the technique will stop working on the day you drive a few hundred miles, and then you will have to replace the whole assembly.
