has anybody had trouble finding parts to mount a factory spoiler?
thanks
you meant you can't find 2 screws? the spoiler is only mounted by 2 screws, but you need to change your trunk spring tho.

sorry, but that is not correct. you obviously have not had one of these apart yet.
the spoiler is mounted by two screws, some double side adhesive foam shapes, and two male pegs on the bottom of the spoiler ahead of the screws that fit into two female grommets that insert into the trink lid.
when i initially posted this thread, i was having a very hard time finding the female grommets as they do not show up on the exploded drawing that the local dealers are able to pull up on their screens. in fact, i was only guessing at their existence as there could not be any other explanation for what i was seeing when i pulled the spoiler. all that shows on the exploded assembly drawing are the screws, the adhesive foam shapes and the male pegs. yet the male pegs are smaller diameter than the holes in the trunk lid and they do not egnage the lid.
what happened was that the car was hit from behind at a crosswalk. we stopped for the pedestrian, the car behind did not. when it came back from the body shop the spoiler was slightly loose and wobbled. the shop gave me the same "two screws only" story. as it degraded and got worse over time, i was trying to find the parts i needed to get it to sit down solid and firm once again.
after visits to three different dealers, i finally came acorss a parts manager who called the national parts support line. after 15 minutes on the phone, they finally located a "dealer spoiler installation hardware kit."
we ordered it, and it was a baggie containing the aforementioned two screws and the female grommets/inserts that press into the trunk lid. the foam shapes i had to order separately.
it is obvious now that the body shop had simply broken the grommets in removing the spoiler. they probably had the same difficulties in the parts search - not seeing the gromments on the assembly drawing - and just put everything back using only the two screws.
i installed everything yesterday, and we have no more spoiler wobble.
the plastic clips are a pain... when I took mine off they actually warped the trunk lid a bit. Basically have to break them when you remove your spoiler.
I don't get why they would do this, wouldn't it be simpler to have two screws?
Thanks for finding this out. So to fix the spoiler all I have to do is go to the dealer and order the "spoiler installation kit" and the acrylic foam double sided tape, right?
Just out of curiosity were you able to find any of this outside of the dealer?
if by "fix the spoiler" you mean getting remounted/reinstalled so that it sits down tight and solid on the trunk, then yes, you need the "dealer spoiler installation kit."
the spoiler is mounted to the trunk lid at four points and supplemented with four double sided adhesive foam shapes.
the two mounting points towards the front of the spolier (one left, one right) consist of male pegs intergral to the spoiler which catch into female "grommets" or "clips" which are pressed into the trunk lids. these grommets/clips get destroyed if anybody ever takes the spoiler off.
the two rear mounting points are machine screws.
the four double sided adhesive foam shapes (two left and two right) sit between the spoiler and the trunk lid. they must serve not only to secure and hold things down but to also dampen vibrations and take up any slack or slop that might be in the "peg to clip" connections. they may also serve to weather seal the holes for the pegs and the screws that are in the trunk lid and prevent water intrusion. they are shaped and profiled to match the profile of the bottom of the spolier "feet."
the parts screen and assembly drawing at my particular dealership showed the spolier, the male pegs, the double sided adhesive foam tape shapes and the screws. it DID NOT show the female grommets or clips.
the female grommets or clips came as two of the four pieces in the "dealership spoiler installation kit." (the other two pieces being the machine screws.)
reassembly/installation meant ordering the kit and the foam shapes (they came packaged as the two left side shapes in one baggie and the two right side shapes in another baggie.) that is three spearate parts numbers.
as mentioned above, the parts manager at my local dealership only found out about the "dealership spoiler installation kit by calling a national parts resource/line that he has available to him. the other dealership i visited in my quest did not take this extra step.
i don't have the parts numbers handy, i'll rummage around and see if i can find the receipts.
once i had all the parts, installation was easy. install the grommets/clips in the trunk lid. peel off the backing on the double sided ahesive foam tape shapes and attach them to the bottom of the spoiler, peel off the backing from the trunk side of the shapes, press the spolier onto the trunk lid - aligning the male pegs on the spoiler with the grommets/clips that are pressed into the deck lid, and lock everything down with the machine screws.
I had a spoiler put on at a dealer and it would not stay sealed down, they would not modify the procedure of the original installation. I took my 2006 LE to a body shop to make sure my spoiler never is loose or lifts again, it sealed down with special stuff. No stickies notta. Happy now.
