Just recently purchased a 2006 Corolla via used dealership in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. I have had the vehicle for approximately 1 week. The car runs fine there does not seem to be any issues, it came off of a lease from a Toyota Dealership and sold at an auction where the used dealer purchases from.
The vehicle has 73,000km on it.
VIN: 2T1BR32E96C639145
After approximately one week of flawless driving I noticed that the check engine light had come on. I read the manual and took all procedures to narrow down the problem. I was unable to successfully figure out what was wrong so I took the car back to the used dealership where I purchased the vehicle. He hooked up his tester and the error code "P0138" appeared.
His solution was to reset the code so that it would no longer show up. He told me that if it shows up again, to bring it back to diagnose the problem again. After reading and doing my research thanks to this wonderful forum I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of problems with the 2005-2007 range of Toyota's and the ECM's. Should I be worried about this? Could my vehicle be showing signs of similar problems that are linked to the ECM problems on these forums?
So let's say that the P0138 error message comes up again... is this something that is covered by warranty? If so, which warranty category would this fall under (powertrain, emissions, major emissions).... any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks so much for your reply... How major of an issue is this? Is it dangerous to drive with this problem?
Is this covered by warranty? If so which warranty category does this fall under? Also how easy is this to fix, and if it's not covered by warranty I definitely will not be taking it the Toyota dealership since I do not want to get ripped off.

I don't really think o2 sensor is under warranty at your mileage, but sometimes just need to clean it that is all to fix the obd code. but you can always change a new one, I think Napa sells them maybe around $70 +/-
Bank 1 = at the engine (usually in the exhaust manifold)
Bank 2 = down stream of the catalytic converter

Thanks a lot for your reply. I think I will replace it if it's that cheap. Only if the error pops up again, if not then looks like I am good.
You are welcome! Xie Xie

The TSB is for the US but it may apply to Canada.
Go to the stealership with your VIN and ask the service department for the maintenance records for your car. They shouldn't charge you for this.
The A/F sensor and the oxygen sensor should be checked before replacing any parts.
The TSB reports something like this:
check A/F sensor - OK
check Oxygen sensor - OK
If both are OK then replace ECM
To check the sensors you need a scan tool and/or multimeter.
