I am confused. I thought the 9th (2003-08) Corollas did not have spark plug wires.

They do not, ours is a coil-on-plug system. There are no spark plug wires per-se, maybe he's talking about the actual coils or maybe the harness to the coils?

OP you need to clarify your original post more so others can offer more suitable suggestions.

thank you! first: this is my first car, i bought it used, so i'm completely newbie with cars, so please pardon my ignorance! ... euh... i think you must be right! i just came back from an auto parts store near my work, and when they checked their computer, they told me that too!

so... argh! i think the mechanic lied : he said he changed the original dead engine ('99) with a '05 one. there is a storm in my head right now!

so now, please help me: i would like to know what year, model is my engine , please? please just tell me where/what/which part of to my car to take pictures of , and i will do it! thanks!

thanks for coming to help me! oh my God, my head is stormy now! i did take a picture yesterday of both wires, new & old ones, and they look exactly the same! i mean the old one, (supposedly '05), in gray; new one (real 99), in black.

Either the car isn't an 05, or the engine isn't the original one.

2005 Corollas did not use ignition wires on the 1ZZ.

Car is a 1998-1999. Everything from 2000-up had individual coils, no wires.

You need to get wires for a 1998-1999.
