USA Where it's made

I am trying to identify whether my Corolla 06 was made in US or Japan; Does any one know how to tell by checking the VIN or something else?

Thanks

If it starts with a J it was made in Japan. If it doesn't have a J it was made in the US. Open the drivers side door and look at the door jam, it will tell you the plant it was made. If you bought your corolla in CA, there is a very strong chance it was made at NUMMI in Fremont CA. If it wasn't made in NUMMI it was made in Cambridge Ontario. Or, if you have the VIN handy enter it here: http://www.motoverse.com/tools/vin/toyota.asp and it will give you basic info on the car.

It is widely agreed that the Japanese made Toyotas are of better build quality, even before the huge pedal recall. Also the 06 corolla ECUs assembled at NUMMI have a abnormally high failure rate.

J - Japan
2 - Canada
1 - US

The Japan and Canada Corollas had a Japanese-made Denso ECU, while the US Corollas had a Mexican-made Delco (GM-spec) ECU. Naturally the Denso ones are more reliable. Most all the other electronics in the US Corollas were Denso though.

For any car, common VIN origin codes:

1 - US
2 - Canada
3 - Mexico
4 - US
5 - US
J - Japan
K - Korea
W - Germany
