2005 Labor costs

I was at the dealer the other day to get a new battery. Never again there. Then the advisor said I needed a new cabin filter. (he had already taken out the old one -- at least he said it was mine.) So if he went thru that, why should I pay full labor when all he is doing is putting in a new one. I wonder if it was really mine or a corroded one laying around to show people. (The car doesn;t smell any better in the inside
The dome light in center of ceiling keeps blowing out. They want to charge 30.00 for a new one but imtimidate me into believing if I change it myself, I could do more damage than good. How the heck are you suppose to trust your dealers mechanics if they do this to you. These lights only last about a year, yet the guy said they are suppose to last up to 6 years. maybe they put inferior lights in so you keep coming back. This is disgusting. Third light in 3 years. does not make sense.

A good piece of advice is to never go to dealers for parts since they'll always jack up the price from what you can pay elsewhere. Same thing goes for service too. Sometimes you can find a dealer service center that's good, but as a rule they're worth avoiding. Talk to friends, family, and fellow TN members to find out a good independent mechanic in your area.

Not all dealers do this, just like not all Independents are honest and fair. It's all about the money no matter where you go. Best advice is what is recommended by Trail Dust

go by a haynes manual for your vehicle(about $17).

I have a matrix to change my cabin air filter you remove 2 srews on the glovebox and then slide the filter out. it takes about 4 minutes.. the dome light just pops ooff and then you pull the bulb

you can buy parts at rockauto.com. sometimes you need to get a few things to make the shipping work out. ie. a cabin filter might cost $7 and the shipping for it might be $7 making it $14, however if you bought 10 cabin filters the shipping might be $8 for all of them.

get the manual, anyone that is smart enough to find this website is smart enough to figure out how to do these smple tasks!!!!

* also try and create a vehicl profile/signature like i have

AAA will come to you with a new batterry. Stay away from the Stealerships unless you have to.

When you have any issue with the car, no matter how simple. Post it here on a new thread and someone will help you.......

Thank you everyone for your responses. I also have another problem now. Seems a year ago when I had my car inspected. (not at dealer) they guy recommeneded a transmission flush as well as the dealer continually saying I needed that. At how many miles should I get one. I am a female and have no way of doing this myself. But I only have 45,000 (will be by today or tomorrow) miles on the car. Should I be getting a trans. flush this quick. I also heard some bad reports about having this done such as trans. causing more problems.

I would research before i did a tranny flush on my vehicle. I bought my car in my signature with a 100k miles on it . I did not know the history of the tranny mainatance. I do a drain and fill( 3quarts) on my tranny every other oil change. I just did one yesterday. I would only use the recomended fluid. I use toyota type IV
