anti-theft or electical problem?

ok it all started this morning when i found out i left a light on all night. this killed my battery, so i had it jumped w/ my dads car. As soon as the clamps were taken off the engine would suddenly stop.

so we went to an auto part store and bought a new battery because we just figured the old battery was completely shot. we installed the new battery and luckily the car started. however, it can not be shifted out of park! also, the radio will not turn on, the gauges will not work, and the remote on the keys will not lock or unlock the car.

we checked every fuse under the hood and under the dash. there was only one that was blown so i replaced it. but still no luck. my father and i came to the conclusion that an anti-theft system that was bought from an aftermarket company was triggered once the batteries were swapped. no alarms go off at all tho. but if thats the case, can i reset or turn off the system? thanks in advance

btw, its an 2004 corolla purchased new from colonial toyota of milford, ct. were trying to find the manufacturer of the anti-theft system

You said you checked the fuses, but did you check the relays? Check the relays under the hood, I take it your brake lights are out too?

Are you sure you hooked up the cables correctly? Often times when people cross the cables they blow fuses and electronics do not work correctly.

There is a small tab on the top of the shifter, you can pop that out and jam in a screwdriver and shift, however I do not recommend driving with no gauges (or brake lights)

On this diagram, number 22 is the fuse for the shifter and number 19 is for the brake lights. Number 8 is for the radio and remote. Double check those fuses again, as they could have blown again, but most likely it is the alternator relay (number 39). Check 39 before you do anything else, there are two screws next to it holding it in and you will have to remove the entire fuse box to get to the screws. It is a 100 Amp and usually blows when the cables are crossed and I am willing to bet that is the problem. Disconnect the battery before removing the fuse box. Get the fuse from the dealer, it will be expensive.

Which fuse on that diagram was blown and you replaced? Was it number 12? If not, double check that one too.

There have been instances of non OEM relays not fitting properly. May want to get an OEM relay. Everything will work after you fix that relay.
