Lost...Need Help/advice

So my check engine light came on in my 07 corolla and it was a P2610-failed ECM. I then thought ok so I will buy a used ECU with the same number on my ecu (89661-02K20*)
I have a 2007 toyota corolla type S and the ECU/ECM that I ordered was from a CE of same gen.
I went to toyota to have them reprogram my ECU so that my car would stay turned on and they said that it would not program to the immobilizer key.

Does anyone know what I could do or what I should do?

Thank you for your time,

Nick

89661–02K20 is the replacement from the stealer. From reading on these boards, someone said that Toyota cannot reprogram used ECUs. Also, there is a chance that you got someone elses problem board but what is more likely that you got an ECU from an 03 or 04 corolla, which does not have an immobilizer and the 05+ does have it.

How many miles on your car? More than 80,000?

yea my car has roughly around 113xxx miles on it (i bought it with 5.4)...
toyota wants around 6xx.xx for a new ECU....found other places online that want 548.xx for a new one. I think I will make sure I received a ECU from a 05+ before I decide to shell out the extra cash on a brand new one.....

thanks for the info.....let me know if anyone would know anything else...

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214140 has it for $365 plus $37 for shipping. They are the cheapest OEM dealer on the net. Call and talk to Jeremy in parts and see how much it would cost to program your VIN into the ECU before they ship, if they can even do it.

Also, does the used ECU have the same tranny as your car? And just to clarify, was the dealer allowed to reenter a VIN into the used ECU or just the immobilizer part did not program?

Yes the car the ECU/ECM came out of did have the same tranny as my car thats one of the first things that was asked. I believe the only reason the dealer get it to work is because the Immobilizer key could not program.

Just an update....I got the ECM/ECU replaced by the dealer....cost $734 after tax and installation fee. Light shut off and car seems to be working just fine.
Hopefully that did the job....
Cost a pretty penny, but if it works it was well worth it.
