Front brake pads?? - how to

Hey all -

I'm a new 2005 Corolla S owner and while having new tires installed, mechanic told me I needed new front brake pads. He wanted to charge me some $250 for the pads - I declined, knowing I have done them on my old TDI for about $90 a set in the driveway.

But this being the Corolla - is there any tools I need or anything special I am not aware of? What pads are generally available at an AutoZone or Advanced Auto that are good to use?

Is there a detailed write-up somewhere?

Thanks.

I just did mine on a 2006 Corolla. No special tools required.
Here is a link to some more info:

Directions to change front calipers

I purchased mine at the local AutoZone: they usually have the "3 tier specials"; the good, better, best...... I just took the top of the line and still only spent $ 55.
The change was a piece of cake. Mine lasted to about 75K miles; front left was down to about 2mm in one area, but still OK.

Good luck
