Question turnin my DRLs off because of my HIDs

Hey everyone!
First off I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla S
I have HIDs and those bulbs burn out fast when they are constantly running.

I have searched all over about turning my DRL's off. &I do understand it will also turn off the Auto lights as well.

I want to be sure that I am going to cut the right wire...I'm not positive which one I am going to be cutting here. If anyone could post a picture of the color/number of the wire I will be on my way.

I don't think you need to cut wires. I think there's a connection you can just unclip. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I have read in the other threads it talks about clippin' wire number 12.

Can anyone confirm that you don't need to cut the wire you can just upclip it?

cut that #12 pin and tape off both sides. This module is located under your steering wheel. You are gonna have to unscrew the module to pull it down and make it accessible then clip that wire and tape off the ends so they don't short anything out or accidentally reconnect. Then just screw the module back in and you are good to go.

I'm not surprised that your bulbs burnt out but i'm surprised that they weren't flickering because the DRL module wasn't clipped. They should have been strobbing and flickering like crazy before eventually blowing out.

ahh thanks for the picture!
You are very very helpful.

I'm not sure if it flickered or not.
My mom and I went out to eat the other night and when we pulled in (its like a little shopping mall with a bunch of windows) my mom noticed that one of my head lights were out. That’s when I decided there has to be some way to turn of the DRLs. It might have flickered. I know it still does the little flicker when I turn on the car, but no light.
So now I'm going to buy some new bulbs and cut that wire or maybe cut the wire and then buy some new bulbs.

I understand its a safety feature, but if on coming traffic "can't see me", then maybe they shouldn't be driving or maybe they should get some glasses.

I kinda have the same problem with my HIDs. I read that if your DRL are on it doesn't use as much watts as having the headlight switch on because with it being on it uses more wattage. Only thing was when I start up my car the driver side light would turn on flicker then go off. My solution just turn on the headlights before starting the car up and tada it worked the headlight stayed on. Then u can turn off the headlight switched and itll still be on.

George..you just gave an idea.... I know that the e-brake shuts them off, but rather than take the chance of running with the brakes partially on and the chance the wifey takes the brake completely off....

There has to be a switch that is being activated by the e-brake.... if we locate that switch and tape in in the closed or open position (whatever works)....that would be a more permanent disable and can be reversed real easy... no cut wires to fix....

What you guys think?.... I'm interested in this fix also, as running my GE platinums for a year or so at 1/2 wattage kills the output of the bulb (they are not as bright as they should be)....

If you did that then the "Brake" light would be on all the time. While some people would not care when it finally burns out. This can be a safety issue as if you ran low on fluid you wouldn't know before it's too late.

OP The only way is to disable the DRL module. There are several threads on this. There is even a thread not even a month old that links to a thread where they go over clipping different wires and even making them switched to be able to turn the feature on and off. They even talk about how to maintain auto light functionality. It was literally on page 2 of this forum and asked the exact same question.

I am going to kick myself for this but.

how to disable the DRL in a 2005 toyota corolla

I can imagine in another 10 days someone will ask the same question again.

There's no need to cut it, just depin the connector. That way you can put it back easily and without any extra connections. Just depin it and tape it back to the harness or similar. Much cleaner.

Simple! if you don't want to cut and harness wire and you still want to keep your running lights with out the flickering, simply just splice out the ground wire from ONE hid ballast (passenger side is easier) and BAMM!!!
