Brake squeak only during the first time braking.

I have a 2003 LE with 70k miles and my brakes only squeak during the first braking after starting the car. They stop squeaking after the first couple of brakings. If I park my car for a few hours and go back out again, the brakes still squeak during the first braking. I had the pads and rotors done 20k ago (roughtly 2 years ago). I spoke to the Toyota Dealership mechanic and he said the pads usually last around 30-40k miles.

Does anyone else have this problem or have any ideas on what this might be?

Thanks!

if it drives you crazy enough, do what i did, get some brake quiet (red) take out the pads, put the quiet on the back of the pads, let it dry for 20 minutes, reinstall, and then give it another shot. the brakes should not make any more noise.

brake squeak or squeal is caused by the pad vibrating between the rotor and caliper. the sound you hear is an acoustical result of this vibration. the brake quiet ads a layer to deaden the vibrations.

it's probably break dust.
I have brand new breaks on my 06 rolla S and they still squeak.
If I break on them JUST right then they don't, but I'm gonna say break dust.

dust is going to be there regardless. it has little if no bearing on squeaking.

you more than likely have semi-metallic pads, which is the most common pad for normal driving. this along with the harmonic distortion mentioned above causes brakes to "squeak".

take 2 hours, and put the brake quiet on the back of the pads and your problem will be solved.

Thanks for the responses! It's actually squeaking less now.
