Question 05' Corolla S Mass Air Flow Sensor

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I'v posted anything here. So here's the deal.

My 05' Corolla was stuttering/stumbling/stammering, like it wanted to cut off while in traffic.

Dealer says that my Mass Air Flow Sensor was shot and that it has an open circuit. Is this normal or the dealer trying to shyst a woman again?

My car was just there two weeks ago for a major service @ 120K. I spent bullets. Should this problem have been detected then or was there something possibly done then that would show up now?

Yes, I'm suspicious. Never had a problem with stuttering, stumbling or stammering before.

I'm very open for suggestions. What is your take?

Didn't get the work done b/c of low funds. Anyone know anything or can you suggest a remedy.

Should I take it to another mechanic that may be less expensive?

Did your check engine light, (not maintenance required light) ever come on, I assume that is how the figured out the open circuit? Did this issue just happen after you got your car back from service or were there issues before you took it in? Ask around to find a local mechanic. I don't dare ask what you paid for your 120K service. Can your car rev above 3,000 RPM on the tachometer? I imagine you do not have a modified air intake system?

get this one and see, it should work if just MAF and only $40 compare to the stealer $200, as long as they are toyota parts number 22204-0D030 , should works on our corolla, and the sensor is right on the air filter box, only 2 philips holds it, so you can change it, just make sure you unplug the cable first, and put the replacement on, then plug it back in,

Hello Mikard and thanks for your reply.

No the light never came on and yes this problem did arise two weeks after taking the car in for that service. I've checked a couple of places for a quote on this problem and think that I found one by referral of a friend.

When I picked my car up from the dealer after having this problem diagnosed. There was a disclaimer stating that if I got the work done there was no guarantee that the "symptoms" Would cease.

What kind of mess is that? I found an article that I found very helpful to help educate me more about my cars problem. I'm taking the liberty of posting it. Perhaps someone else will also be further informed. I'll keep you posted about this experiece.

Mikererd. Yes the car can rev past that amount and no no intake modifications have been done.
