In-dash cubby door very loose

Kind of a weird problem – in my ’04, right under the clock there are two in-dash cubby areas – like for your cell or sunglasses.

The bottom one, with the flip-down door, got very loose all of the sudden. So much so that when I accelerate hard, that little door flops down.

Anyone else had this? Any ideas how to fix? I don’t want this thing flopping down every time I hit the gas…

Thanks!

Did the tabs holding the door on break off? if not it sounds like the springs have come off. there are 2, one on each side. you have to pull out the whole assembly and find and reinstall the springs to fix it.

The piece that the lighter is in just pops up, unplug the lighter wires. this gives access to two screws. unscrew these and the two bolts in the bottom of the center console. lift the console up and back you will have to unplug the accessory plug in the console. it will be in the vicinity of the two screws. remove the console then remove the center dial, fan control, on the center piece. under it there is a screw remove it. with a little coaxing the center piece comes straight out. the two springs are v shaped. I dropped one and lost it under the carpet. good luck.

I ended up just removing the whole door. I broke the piece off that the spring attaches to so i just took the door off. I think its better off without it anyways, since it where my ipod goes now.
