alarm system

I'm curious about the alarm system on my car. The previous owner (orignal owner) said he purchased the car in California but the company who manufactured the alarm system is no longer in business. Will I run into any problems by disconnecting the negative battery terminal to work on the car? Is there anything I should be aware of while working on the vehicle that would enable the anti theft lockout features.

Found this if anyone else is in a similar predicament. I personally like to work on my car and take parts off, not just do minimal maintenance and let the stealerships take car of the hard stuff. Problem is manufacturers are making newer cars more and more difficult to work on independently.
