Long constant tone when door open, car won't start

Our Corolla has worked fine until yesterday. It started as normal, but when my wife got to work and opened the door to get out, there was a long and constant tone that would only stop if the door was shut. She did not leave the keys in or the lights on.

Later on when she went to leave, the remote could not unlock the doors, the lights wouldn't come on, and the car wouldn't do ANYTHING when trying to start it. The only thing it would do is produce the long and constant tone when the door was open again. No lights on the dash except the door ajar light, even the dome light wouldn't turn on.

I jump started it just fine, turned it off after a few minutes and started it up and it worked just as normal. I took it to have the battery checked, they said the battery was low but the alternator seemed like it wasn't putting out enough power, which may have caused the problem. So I took it to the dealer and they said the battery and alternator both looked fine, and the car is still working perfectly.

Now I'm worried it's just going to randomly stop working somewhere, any ideas what the problem really is? Why it would produce a long constant tone with the door open?

The security system tends to go wonky when the battery is very low. This is probably the cause of the tone. I"m not calling your wife a liar, but if I was a betting man, I would go with the lights being left on. It has been my experience that some woman are afraid to admit, or are somewhat confused when it comes to car stuff. I'm sure that there are men out there with the same infliction.

Just in case I'm wrong about the battery death, it wouldn't hurt to check the battery and ground connections, if the dealer didn't already do it.
