we have a 07 Corolla ce, with 40k. we are expecting our second baby this winter, our first is only 8 months old so there will be 2 car seats...I am thinking of trading in our Corolla that we still owe a little on for a bigger but slightly older Camry with more miles on the odometer. We need more room, but the car will not be a family hauler, we have a Sienna for that..It will be a car for me but when I do drop the kids off for day care in the mornings they will be with me, it also will be used for my wife to run errands in when it is not necessary to drive the van..to trade or not to trade..
I would probably do it for the safety aspect of it. You get about 5mpg less if you get a 4 cyl. Camry.
The worst thing is when you trade you move to an unknown vehicle if you get used. I don't know what Camrys are running but Corrollas seem to hold value pretty good, you might see what kind of deal new would cost? You're probably not looking to go there with another little one on the way but see what that costs in comparison to used. Good luck and congratulations!
Congratulations. Camry and Corolla are pretty close resale wise. If you can find a good one, a 92-96 Camry Sedan or Wagon (preferred) would be a fine choice. These years are before Toyota's quality declined and the company was not run by a Toyoda family member. Good luck
Stay away from the 02-06 models with the 2azfe-4cyl engine. They have alot of issues with the threads for the head bolts stripping out of the block. I would go for the 6-cyl model.

thanks guys, I am thinking of an older model so I can have extra cash after the Corolla sale..
So, by the comments so far I should stay away from 02-06 and look for late 90's to 01..

Well almost, 90s-96. In '97 Toyota started cheapening their cars. I don't know if this was the year that a Toyoda family member was not involved with day to day operations. I've been doing some searching and reading, and even the pre 92 Camry's get many positive/rave reviews with the only problems being rust and some of the V-6 engines.
I had a '92 Camry with so many problems that I worked on it every weekend. It even let us down (no starting) a few times. I still liked the car, but I wouldn't go back to own one.
What's wrong with the Corolla? We have two kids and the Corolla is just fine. In fact that's our only car and we even went to vacations with the car. Sure, it's not huge, and I guess our family is minimalistic, but if you have a different family car, I think it would be a big mistake to buy an older Camry with potential problems. Remember, even if you get some cash out of the deal, every time you trade cars, you lose value.

You are so right-
I have thought about it all weekend and we will keep the Corolla..It is just to practical and it has unbeatable gas mileage..It is used as a 3rd vehicle anyway, my wife and I both use it to run errands and when traveling locally. Everything I was looking at was a good bit older and over double the mileage of the Corolla-40k-..I think looking at craigslist does this to me everytime..want something I don't have. Thanks guys
